Mr. Mark Skousen, Professor of Columbia University Delivered a Keynote Speech in the Opening Ceremony

Mr. Zheng just mentioned that this year is the 70th anniversary of the success of the Red Army's Long March, which made me think of another Long March. My wife and I first came to China in 1983. Then there were bicycles all over the streets. When we come here this time, we discover great changeds. There are much fewer bicycles and much more cars. So I believe that China's Long March to economic prosperity will be very fast. In the U.S., my motherland, there's also a very important event, that is, the 100th birth anniversary of Franklin, one of our founding fathers. We all know that Franklin is America's first diplomat. He like French very much, besides, he like all the foreigners. Franklin is famous for many things, though what we say today would not be a guidance to our future relationship. Many of us know that he once said "Early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise." There are two other sentences said by him which are rather appropriate here and can promote the world's globalization. In a globalized world, free trade and free market have become the current. One sentence is that "A virtuous and diligent person is relatively easy to manage." He said the other sentence after the lengthy civil war, which is also quite suitable for our globalized era, is "America's policy should be to help all make investment here rather than to fight with them.". I hope this can be the future of China. Thank you!
