Mr. Michael Chermak, CEO of Bridgetech Holdings International, Inc.: The Healthy Influence of Chinese Healthcare Market

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to speak. This has been a very enjoyable journey for me. It’s the first time I am in Wuxi and it is a very beautiful city. My topic today is on the medical and health market in China and the role my company plays in this the world’s largest market.

In recent years, China has been advancing at a speed few countries in the world can match. You have an effective central as well as local government structure and the support of experts in every field. This has facilitated the transformation of the country on a large scale. The current medical and health expenditure in China takes up only a small percentage of its GDP, about 5%, compares with 14% in the U.S.A. and 10% in Europe. In 2001, China was the fourth or the fifth largest medical and health market in the world. Since then, China has been developing very rapidly and is hence a very attractive market for us.

Our focus is cancer therapeutics and diagnostic devices and China has the highest incidence of cancer. The reasons for this phenomenon include the fact that you have a significantly large ageing population; 300 million smokers and most people don’t seem to do much physical exercises. In the long run, this will have much negative effect on our health.

In coming to China, I want to assure you that we are very passionate about developing business here. We are keen on establishing good relationships with the Chinese government and we appreciate the Chinese culture and its tradition. Looking back into Chinese history, we appreciate that China was the center of international trade for 1000 years. During that time China conducted foreign trade with many countries. Today what we are seeking to do is similar - to introduce the world’s best science and medical technology and diagnostics to China

In the world today, unfortunately, many people are afflicted with cancer. In June this year, Bridgetech’s founding chairman, a Hong Kong Chinese gentleman, sadly died of the disease. This has caused us to seek to create the most value for our shareholders while, at the same time, contribute towards solving some of your biggest medical and health problems related to cancer. We are committed to doing well by doing good. We are not here only to make commercial profit. You in fact have abundant resources and you are bound to achieve major breakthroughs in medical and health development. I believe however that by working together with us, we shall collectively be able to contribute more to the Chinese society in this regard.

In introducing our products to China, we shall collaborate with leading Chinese medical institutions and cooperate with Chinese medical professionals. No doubt we shall meet many challenges in the process, eg how to cope with various regulatory requirements, but we shall also learn and excel.

Our business model depends heavily on a unique distribution system which involve working with local distributors and hospitals and we’ve made impressive initial progress. Going forward we are acutely aware of the need to respect our different cultures and shall not transfer European or Western models directly into China. We have set up an office in Beijing and established cooperation with the Chinese University of Hong Kong to set up a Contract Research Organisation in Hong Kong. This is a strategic element in our business model.

Last but not the least, we believe education is key. We have established a Foundation to set up a non-profit healthcare web portal to provide to the consumers and professionals credible medical and health contents from renowned institutions from the US and China. We shall be cooperating with other non-profit organizations in China in this initiative. To ensure we do this right, we have a translation and editorial team in China to provide the necessary language support. Thank you very much for inviting me to this conference. I look forward to seeing you again soon. Thank you!
